The 3rd annual WCEF Read-a-thon was a huge success! Most money raised. Most participants. Most minutes read!
We kicked off the event with "bring your favorite book to school"! Titles included Dog Man, Cinderella, and Please, Mr. Panda! All to raise much-needed funding for programs not covered by the state. Our students reached out, and our community answered. We received more than 2,500 donations in two weeks. Thank you to our teachers, families, principals and PTA partners for making this event so successful.
➡︎ Did you know?
Weekly art, music, and science lab programs for our TK-5 students cost WCSD about $703,000 a year. That's about $117,000 at each of the six elementary schools to run programs our students love and provide a well-rounded education. No state funding is given for these programs.
➡︎ Did you know?
Elective classes cost about $18,000 each at WCI and Tice Creek. WCEF funding provides an additional $275,000 this year to create elective classes that otherwise would not exist.
➡︎ Did you know?
Less than 10% of pubic schools benefit from a credentialed librarian, and more than 50% of library funding comes from the community.
California funding simply isn't enough.
Almost 97% of funds raised will help support the arts, science, more elective classes at the middle and high school levels, a credentialed librarian, math support, the Las Lomas Wellness Center, and more to enhance the education of 5,000 students.
