The Michael W. DeSa Memorial Scholarship honors outstanding students dedicated to pursuing their passion for life, leadership and community service. After DeSa passed away in October 2006, his family requested that donations be made in his name to the Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF) and that a memorial scholarship for Las Lomas High School seniors be administered by WCEF. Fifty percent of the donations went to establish the scholarship fund and the other fifty percent to seed the WCEF endowment.

The scholarship fund has continued to grow through generous donations. Each year a scholarship in the amount of $2000 is awarded to a senior graduating from Las Lomas. Seniors at Las Lomas High School who attended WCSD schools throughout K-8 grades may apply for the DeSa Memorial Scholarship in the spring of each year. The scholarship must be used towards an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or vocational school. Members of the DeSa family work with the staff at Las Lomas to select a student who meets the criteria. The scholarship is awarded during the annual Las Lomas High School Senior Awards Banquet in May.
