WHY I GIVE

“It's important to support the local educational organization. I like that all of the schools are included from elementary to high school. The foundation joins together the community in support of an important cause — educating our kids. It's vitally important, especially because of the instability of the funding from the state.”
- a WCSD parent

Pulling Together, For Our Kids

I am happy to report that our parent and community fundraising campaign for 2008-09 has brought WCEF an amazing total of $725,000, just $18,000 shy of our goal of $743,000. Thank you to each of you who have donated to WCEF. The parent participation rate is only at 48% -- it is still not too late to make your donation and help bring us closer to our goal. Click here to do so. Please remember it matters more that you give than how much you give.

Thank you for participating in the online WCEF parent survey that is currently taking place. Your input helps us prioritize funding categories and ease the donation process as we approach the spring fundraising campaign.

If you have read the paper lately you are aware of the severe budget cuts taking place in the Walnut Creek and the Acalanes Union School Districts. Parents will be asked now, more than ever, to help minimize the direct impact on their children. Our community must pull together to ensure the continued quality of our schools. WCEF is working with the Districts and parent groups to prioritize and identify funding needs for next year. As soon as they are confirmed we will communicate these to you.

Thank you so very much for being a partner with WCEF.

Gratefully,
Nancy Rivara, WCEF President

WCEF and Support Services at Walnut Creek Intermediate

Ensuring our children's safety is a full-time commitment. It is also a task we expect our schools to fulfill in our absence. The middle school years present a particular challenge. As bullying, peer pressure and other issues surface, the need to protect students grows more pressing. Given that reality, Walnut Creek Intermediate offers a collection of programs that focus on safety.

“Many of these would not be possible without WCEF,” explains WCI Principal Kevin Collins. “With its help, we can provide services that many schools can't, such as an additional counselor, after-school care and Squire Pride speaker assemblies.” Other programs include WEB (Where Everybody Belongs), campus supervision and WCI's disaster relief effort.

Thursday Night Out!

Tired of cooking dinner? Want to raise money for our schools? It’s easy with Thursday Night Out! Saturday Shoppers

Are you a Saturday Shopper? If you find yourself in one of the participating stores on a Saturday let them know that, you “support our schools and WCEF” and the participating stores will donate 10-15% of your purchase to WCEF. All you need to do is mention that you “support our schools and WCEF”. Click here for a list of stores

MEET WCEF BUSINESS PARTNER:
AlphaGraphics of Walnut Creek

Greg and Stephanie Ernst, co-owners of AlphaGraphics in Walnut Creek have generously supported WCEF by providing in-kind printing support for the past three years.

Without their partnership, WCEF marketing outreach needs wouldn’t be possible. Their generosity can be spotted around Walnut Creek by the Thursday Night Out! signs displayed in downtown restaurants, Saturday Shopper signs in our local retail shops, and Spring and Fall Campaign posters displayed in our schools.

As parents of three children, Sam a seventh grader at WCI, Camryn in fourth grade and Katie Rose in second grade, both at Indian Valley Elementary School, the Ernsts strongly believe in supporting local schools, PTAs, and community and civic activities.

Celebrating their 10th year, the Ernsts and their staff use state-of-the-art solutions for a complete range of print and marketing communications requirements. Their experienced team members are always friendly and helpful. You can readily count on their commitment to delivering creative solutions from concept to completion using the latest technology - whether you need a small or large printing job, design services, or digital archiving. They also offer online ordering and also free pick-up and delivery.
