Walnut Creek School District
Superintendent's Message

The Crucial Role of the
Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF K-12)

WCEF K-12 is a vital funding partner that has provided critical assistance to the Walnut Creek School District, particularly during the California budget crisis of the past few years. Our community values quality education and demands excellence in our schools. However, it is only with collaborative and sustainable funding from WCEF K-12 and a variety of sources that we are able to meet these high expectations of our students, parents and community.

To accommodate our 2006-2007 school year funding needs, WCEF K-12 will be kicking off their Spring Pledge Campaign at the beginning of May. Your continued support of their efforts is critical to ensure ongoing excellence in our schools. When you receive your pledge packet in the mail, please continue to give as generously as you can!

Your support of WCEF K-12 as part of our three-pronged funding paradigm is imperative to maintain the unparalleled quality of our schools.

  • First is the WCSD which manages state, district and parcel tax funds,
  • Second is WCEF K-12 which funds academic and enrichment programs and student services,
  • Third is School Site Specific funding for individual site needs.

State, district and parcel tax funds do not provide for all of the programs the community has identified as essential to a well-rounded, diverse and quality education. Without significant private donations to WCEF K-12 and the parents clubs, our ability to fully meet our goals will be severely constrained. These goals include providing the following programs currently funded by WCEF K-12 that benefit every student in the district:

  • Elementary Level (K-5)
    - Art, Vocal Music, and P.E. instruction. The fact that these programs exist also allows teachers time to take part in grade-level collaboration. This is a vital component in a teacher's continuing education and gives them the tools necessary to impact every student's individual performance.
  • Intermediate Level (6-8)
    - Curriculum Based Visiting Artist Program, Campus Safety Supervisor, and Band and Art Supplies. For the 2006-2007 school year, the following programs will also be funded; Homework Improvement Program, After School Programs, Assemblies, WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Program, Health and Safety, and one half of one new full time counselor.

Michael De Sa, Superintendent
