What is StreetSmarts?
StreetSmarts is a business guide produced and distributed by WCEF. Our business partners are given advertising space in the directory according to the level of their donation.
Why does WCEF produce and distribute StreetSmarts?
There are many reasons for the business guide:
- To encourage our community to patronize the businesses that support our children and our schools. WCEF believes that StreetSmarts will help forge stronger ties between our school community and our business community creating a win-win situation for both.
- WCEF hopes StreetSmarts will be viewed by businesses not only as a way for them to advertise their goods and services, but to also advertise their interest in being "good citizens" and supporting the overall WC community.
- WCEF hopes StreetSmarts will stimulate further interest amongst parent-owned businesses to become contributing partners of the foundation.
- StreetSmarts enables WCEF to recognize its many in-kind donors whose generous donations of needed goods and services substantially reduces the foundation's expenses.
- StreetSmarts will increase the familiarity of WCEF and our mission to our business and non-parent communities. By generating a greater awareness, we hope to gain greater interest from them to financially support WCEF.
What is the StreetSmarts Survey?
The StreetSmarts survey was administered last fall to WCSD & Las Lomas parents who were asked to share their favorite spots to have fun or do business. It was designed to be a fun tool to stimulate and engage the school families to recognize great businesses in Walnut Creek. Through this process, WCEF was able to identify more potential business donors and supporters of the foundation.
Who will receive StreetSmarts and when?
- StreetSmarts will be distributed to 38,000 households within the Walnut Creek School District and Las Lomas High School boundaries.
- Those households that are CC Times subscribers will receive StreetSmarts within their newspaper on Thursday, July 26th (when the WC Journal is included).
- Households that do not subscribe to the newspaper will receive it in the circular packet in the mail on Tuesday, July 31st.
- Parents — don't worry if you missed the newspaper or mail distribution! StreetSmarts will be available at the WCEF table at Tri-S or Welcome Back Days in August.
Isn't it very expensive to produce and distribute something like StreetSmarts?
The development of StreetSmarts was provided at no cost due to in-kind donations from Robert Anthony Strategic Marketing and Design for the creative design services. Printing and distribution costs were minimized in collaboration with our business partner, Contra Costa Times.
