WALNUT CREEK EDUCATION FOUNDATION K-12 SEEKS VOLUNTEERS – KEY LEADERSHIP POSITIONS OPEN (Walnut Creek, Calif., February 13, 2009) - - With California’s budget crisis impacting the state’s schools like no other time in history, the Walnut Creek Education Foundation K-12 (WCEF) is actively recruiting volunteers to fill positions on their Board of Directors. In addition they are seeking to expand their volunteer base to participate with fundraising and special event activities to aid local schools during the 2009-2010 school year. According to WCEF president, Nancy Rivara, Walnut Creek schools are bracing for anticipated cuts to staff and programs. “Continuing our strong partnership with our schools is vital. Galvanizing our parent, community, and business sectors to synergistically work to raise funds to save academic programs and student support services – especially at this time, has never been more important. Our kids’ futures depend on it,” said Rivara. WCEF raises funds to maintain outstanding school programs and services essential to students attending the five elementary schools and Walnut Creek Intermediate School of the Walnut Creek School District, and at Las Lomas High School of the Acalanes Union High School District. WCEF’s dedicated group of volunteers includes parents, educators, business and community leaders who are passionate about maintaining excellence in education. Together, WCEF volunteers offer an array of expertise and talent that includes: creating and managing fundraising events and programs; marketing communications; school site relations; business and community development. WCEF’s Board of Directors is comprised of an executive committee, trustees and advisory members. Leadership positions open for the 2009-2010 school year are: President, VP Administration, VP Finance, Secretary, Parent Development Chair, Volunteer Recruitment Chair, and Marketing Communications Chair. Volunteers serve one-year terms with the option of serving beyond. Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, February 25th. ABOUT WALNUT CREEK EDUCATION FOUNDATION The Walnut Creek Education Foundation K-12 is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501c3 organization, tax I.D. #94-2915151 founded in 2005 to maintain academic programs and student support services that are cut due to the state’s education budget shortfall. Among the programs WCEF supports are: K-5, art instruction, music, education, physical education, teacher development, library hours; WCI (grades 6-8): counselor, Visiting Artist Program, Sixth Grade Orientation, campus supervisor, librarian hours, assemblies; Las Lomas High School: College/Career Center, counselors, computer lab, technology staff, library clerks, guidance techs, teachers for class size reduction (grades 9/10) WCEF receives support through financial and in-kind donations from business and corporate partners, parents, alumni, grants and the community-at-large. WCEF is managed by volunteers who are active supporters of the schools, and includes a board of directors comprised of an executive committee, trustees and advisory members. The Foundation has two part-time paid staff members – an executive director and data manager.
