What is WCEF?
WCEF (Walnut Creek Education Foundation) is a volunteer-led, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We raise funds through a broad-based community effort to support quality academic and enrichment programs and student support services for all students attending schools in the Walnut Creek School District (five elementary schools and Walnut Creek Intermediate)and at Las Lomas High School of the Acalanes Union High School District. K-8 schools in the WCSD feed directly into Las Lomas High School (AUHSD).
WCEF’s volunteer board is comprised of an executive committee, trustees, and advisory members. WCEF is also supported by a part-time paid office staff – an executive director and data manager.
What if we can’t give the suggested $600 donation?
For some families this donation amount is not easy, for some it is impossible. Giving what you can is the most important thing. There are payment plans available if it is easier to spread your donation out over time.
Can I pay my donation in installments?
Yes, you can set up a payment plan either on line or by printing a donation form and specifying how you would like to divide your donation.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes. The Walnut Creek Education Foundation is a California non-profit, public benefit, corporation. It is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The federal tax ID number for the foundation (EIN) is #94-2915151. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
The Giving Campaign Video is amazing. How much did it cost WCEF?
The entire Giving Campaign – the video, mailing, web site and posters – were produced at NO COST TO WCEF, thanks to the generous contributions of local businesses, volunteers, students, teachers and administrations.
What percentage of the money raised goes to the schools and what percent covers administrative costs?
Administrative expenses for WCEF are low because volunteers do the majority of work. Current administrative costs represent less than 7% of the total budgeted foundation funds. Fundraising costs represent less than 5%. The remaining 88% goes directly to the schools we serve. Per Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator, a charity that spends 15% or less in its administrative costs and 10% or less in its fundraising efforts is awarded its highest ranking.
What is the difference between WCEF and PTA/PTO fundraising?
The PTA/PTO organization associated with your child's school raises money for individual school site needs. PTA/PTO works with your school administration to allocate funds raised for various needs such as staffing, equipment, site improvements, etc. These funding efforts are supplemental to WCEF.
The Walnut Creek Education Foundation raises funds to preserve and enhance the education of each student in the Walnut Creek School District and Las Lomas High School in the Acalanes Union High School District through a broad-based community effort. This year we will raise $750,000 to help bridge the gap left by a lack of state funds for our children’s education.
It takes funds from these primary sources — PTA/PTO and WCEF to subsidize the huge gap in state funding necessary to sustain the academic enrichment programs and student services essential to the distinguished schools our children enjoy today.
How will California’s fiscal crisis impact our schools?
California’s education budget cuts impact academic programs, student support services, enrichment programs and teachers and staff. To learn more about the current fiscal situations our districts face, go to www.walnutcreeksd.org and www.acalanes.k12.ca.us
Will my employer match my contribution to WCEF?
Check with your company’s Human Resources department to find out. You may also check our partial list of employers offering matching programs.
Why does WCEF print a list of donors’ names? Can I give anonymously?
Every donor makes a difference, and each gift deserves to be acknowledged. Many people new to the District, or to WCEF, give because they are prompted not by us, but by you. Seeing your name on a public acknowledgement tells people who know and respect you that you have lent your support to our efforts. That usually means more than all the emails we can send.
You can give anonymously to WCEF by noting it on your donation form or in the “comments” box on the online form. We will honor your request.
Can I designate that my donation support the specific elementary school my child attends?
No. WCEF was established to fund District-wide educational programs which provides academic and student support continuity for all students in grades K-12. Because we work closely with the Districts and schools to identify funding needs - and allocate money accordingly – you can be assured that the money you contribute will directly benefit the quality of funded programs and services at your child(ren)’s school(s).
